Pacific Highway Upgrade, Macleay River & Floodplain Bridge

Pacific Survey were engaged by Lendlease (Abigroup) to provide surveying services for the construction of the $185m, 3.2km long four lane bridge over the Macleay River and floodplain, the longest operating bridge in Australia. Lendlease enlisted Pacific Survey on this project based on our expertise and hands on experience in bridge construction.

The bridge is 21.6m wide and was constructed with 94 spans. Typical spans are 34m, with the exception of the river’s navigation channel where the spans are 35m.

Our surveyors were involved in all aspects of the construction of the bridge including surveying the control network and the set out and conformance of piles, pile caps, headstocks, bearing pads, girders, deck pours, scuppers, barriers, handrails, pavements and line marking.

Due to the variable geological profile along the length of the bridge our surveyors were required to perform regular monitoring of the survey control network and the bridge structure to ensure construction practices were employed to achieve tolerances.

Pacific Survey’s surveyors worked closely with our client’s engineers to provide survey processes to minimise opportunities for errors and nonconformities whilst still providing an efficient service.
